Sue is an experienced professional in Indigenous and Community Relations as well as land tenure with more than 30 years of experience. She is member of the International Association of Oil Negotiators, the Canadian Association of Oil  Producers, among others.

She has done several volunteering work in Nicaragua and is also a mentor at the University of Calgary.

Experience in the  private sector:

  1. Advisor and Consultant at The Social License Consortium (August 2015 – Present)
  2. Vice President of Land and Community Affairs at Koch Industries Inc. (1994 – 2015)
  3. In charge of  land tenure affairs at Chieftain Development Corporation
  4. In charge of  land tenure affairs for an Alberta Energy Company

Irene supervises master and doctoral students at the universities of Calgary, Waterloo, Ontario; Royal Road University in Victoria, BC; and the University of San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador. She has also delivered numerous seminars and workshops about corporate social responsibility at an international level including China, Ecuador, Cuba and the United Kingdom. Her research interests focus on environmental management systems, environmental performance assessments, international business, intellectual capital, impact assessments.

She has been the recipient of several awards for outstanding research and teaching. She has been named “Woman of the Year” by The American Business Women’s Association and has been recognized for her contributions as one of the “Outstanding Young Women of America”.

  4. Co-founding member of Nature’s Ride, a Canadian organization promoting environmental education programs and interdisciplinary  training programs

Her research focused on the development of a sustainable project for a community of lepers in China by using organic waste as an energy source to generate biogas that could be used for cooking and heating. She received the Sustainable Leadership Award and honorable mention from the University of Calgary in 2014 for her academic excellence and leadership in sustainability.
